On June 11th His Excellency Mr. Camiel Eurlings, Dutch Minister of Transport and Mr. Gerlach Cerfontaine, President of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, inaugurated world’s first Kerosene Vapour Processing System.

In his speech, Mr. Eurlings, expressed the importance of this innovation. The airport industry is in a constant search of ways to contribute to the environment. With this solution Aircraft Fuel Supply made a interesting step in the right direction.

Mr. Klaas Winters, Managing Director of Aircraft Fuel Supply, took the decision for this development some years ago for reasons of health toward its workers, but it seems that the contribution toward the environment was also important.

With this installation, 1 million m3 of kerosene vapour and 250 tons of “off-spec” kerosene is processed a year and provides a continuous energy production of electricity and heat with an equivalent of some 500 households. This energy will be used on the airport it self and gives a saving of approx. € 100.000 a year.

Klaas Winters: “With this installation we not only preserve the health of our working force, but we see an enormous financial advantage and most of all we make a contribution to the earth’s atmosphere.”

The project on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is a joint venture of IPCO Power; development and production of the KVPS, Imtech; system integrator and project management and Biosoil; Air, Soil and Water pollution specialist.

Worlds first Kerosine vapour Processing Unit, placed on the premisses of Aircraft Fuel Supply on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is nominated by The Environment and Energy Awards. This sustainable solution is nominated in two categories:

1) The Innovation Award for Environmental Technology

2) The Innovation Award for Remediation Technology.

The award ceremony is being held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham (UK) on the eve of 20th May 2008.
